2012 Young People's Concert

    Two “Side by Side” concert performances will dazzle and delight approximately 1,500 elementary and middle school students.  The concerts will feature students in grades 6 through 12 from the Waterbury Arts Magnet School and Region 12 schools, performing side by side with WSO professionals.  Additionally, the concerts are supported by instrument demonstrations for each Waterbury student attending the performances.  Each 25 minute session will be conducted in the student’s school classroom, featuring engaging WSO musicians and group musical participation.  

 

Goals

• Inspire students to exceed their expectations
• Introduce students to the power and beauty of the symphony orchestra
• Encourage further exploration of orchestral instruments

• Deepen students' understanding of how orchestral music is artistically, academically, socially, intellectually, and personally relevant to them

• Reinforce participants understanding of critical listening, non-verbal communication, teamwork, and artistic expression
