About the event

Get out the picnic basket and the parasol! ... it’s time for Picnic & Pops! This three-decade old tradition serves up the sounds of summer and features music by Gershwin, Ellington, Sousa and Woodbury’s own Leroy Anderson, and the beguiling vocal stylings of Maria Wirries, who invites you, in the tradition of Disney, to Let it Go!

Summer Swing! is inspired by the summer concerts of yesteryear- green grass, shady trees, Ice cream, balloons, picnics and time with friends and family, all accompanied by patriotic music, movie scores and a cavalcade of great American songs. There will be tributes to Burt Bacharach and big band tunes of the golden era of swing. The music of Disney will be featured, including Let it Go and When You Wish Upon a Star, all sung by Broadway sensation Maria Wirries. The WSO builds connections across the region with exploratory concerts, events, and educational programs.
