About the event
NOTE: Tchaikovsky's struggles with fate and despair, including personal crises during the composition of this piece.
This concert takes us on a sweeping journey through three powerful musical visions—one rooted in American simplicity and optimism, one involving a journey of the spirit and the last a stormy passionate quest—and all three are connected by a common thread: Fate. Under the pastoral charm of Copland’s Appalachian Spring lies a deeper story – a search for hope and new beginnings. Paul Frucht’s Finding Religion is a family affair, chronicling a search for life’s meaning through religion. Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony opens with a thunderclap: a bold brass fanfare that the composer himself described as the inescapable voice of Fate. This is a work that wrestles openly with destiny—its joys, its heartbreaks, and the constant, unfolding struggle between hope and despair.
A spiritual journey towards hope.
