Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 in B-flat major stands as one of the most remarkable works in the wind ensemble repertoire. Commonly known as the Gran Partita— the famous third movement Adagio—perhaps best known from its poignant use in the film Amadeus—is a profound example of Mozart’s lyrical genius.

About the event

Back by popular demand we return to the Litchfield Community Center with our new Litchfield Series for our 25/26 Season. With deep gratitude to Litchfield Community Center for their partnership in fostering the Arts.

Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 in B-flat major stands as one of the most remarkable works in the wind ensemble repertoire. Commonly known as the Gran Partita—a title not in Mozart’s hand and likely added later—this serenade is notable for its expansive scale.  Spanning seven movements, this work departs from the serenade’s lighter, more functional tradition as background music and instead presents a work of considerable depth and variety. The opening Largo – Allegro molto immediately establishes a grand, almost symphonic character, while the famous third movement Adagio—perhaps best known from its poignant use in the film Amadeus—is a profound example of Mozart’s lyrical genius and expressive power.

MOZART – Gran Partita, K. 361 (1781-84) (50’)
