WSO Petting Zoo Kicks Off New Program

The WSO is thrilled to launch the expansion of the revered Bravo Waterbury! After-School Program to its' second location at Brass City Charter School.

With the exciting launch of a 2nd school site for WSO’s celebrated Bravo Waterbury! After-School Program, WSO brought their beloved Instrument Petting Zoo to over 400 children at the Brass City Charter School.

The students had the chance to try out violins, cellos, percussion, and wind instruments, under the supervision of WSO professional teaching artists, helping them decide whether to enroll in the program this semester.   Was it successful?  Absolutely!  While strategic funding has been secured to serve 50 students at Brass City Charter School this first year, over 100 families expressed interest in participating!

Thanks to the generous support of Brass City Charter School, The David, Helen and Marian Woodward Foundation, and The Elisha Leavenworth Foundation, the WSO is thrilled to launch this second site, offering weekly instruction in strings, percussion, recorder, and choir to 50 students. This expansion builds on the program’s success at Children’s Community School, where 30 students currently participate, at no cost to the families or school.

This milestone aligns with WSO’s ambitious three-year educational strategic plan to bring after-school music programming to all Waterbury public elementary and middle schools over the next three years.
